iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 arrive today. Are you ready? I trust that Apple has thoroughly tested the software and I plan to update within 24 hours.

You can probably expect the new release to be available by around 10 am PT. As always, I recommend backing up your device immediately before updating.

Am I Included?

iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 support all the same devices as version 14 (see above), including iPhone 6s and iPhone SE (1st generation) released in 2015 and 2016, respectively, and iPad Air 2 that dates back to 2014. That’s pretty incredible longevity in the mobile marketplace!

Naturally, some features are exclusive to newer devices that have the processing power and/or other hardware capability. However, it’s reasonable to expect that even the oldest devices will run more efficiently on the new software than on the prior version.

What’s So Special?

This release sports a slew of new features with particular emphasis on ways to focus your attention, more easily connect with others, cleverly interact with things you see, and increase your sense of privacy.

Coming soon…

During the month of October, I will highlight several of these capabilities. If you’re curious to learn more right away, check out Apple’s overviews of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 or its exhaustive lists of new features of each release.

I’m generally impressed by how Apple continues to innovate and I look forward to informing you of these new features in October and throughout the coming year.
