In summer 2022, I’m on a great trek, following in my mom’s pedal rotations, fulfilling a lifelong goal to ride my bike across the United States. I’m part of the TransAm Westward trip, a self-contained, guided tour offered by Adventure Cycling. Mom completed the same ride with the same organization in 1976 when, in the organization’s infancy, it was Bikecentennial.
One among 15 cyclists, I’ll be following the TransAmerica Trail from Yorktown, Virginia, to Florence, Oregon. The ride begins May 5 in Williamsburg, Virginia, and concludes August 5 in Eugene, Oregon.
