Do you use an Android phone? Are you completely in love with your device and the experience of using it? No judgment or shame if you are, but if you use a Mac and feel it’s time to get a new phone, are you open to considering an iPhone?
There are a lot of arguments in favor of switching from Android to iPhone, most notably the deep integration between iPhone and Mac. Can you imagine a world where your computer and phone talk to each other on the regular, ensure that your important data are in sync and accessible where you need them, and you can easily start a task on one device and pick up where you left off on the other?
You don’t even have to set foot in an Apple Store. I can help you choose the best iPhone for your needs, you can order it for delivery, and follow a few simple steps to get started.
Move to iOS
With your new (to you) iPhone in hand, not yet set up, start by putting it down and picking up your Android instead. Visit the Google Play store and download Move to iOS.
If you’ve already set up your iPhone, you’ll need to erase it completely and start over. To do so, open Settings > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings and thoroughly confirm your intent.
Review Preliminary Steps
Before going forward, make sure your Android is connected to Wi-Fi and both phones are connected to power.
Additionally, ensure that your iPhone has enough storage capacity for all the content you want to transfer. Finally, if you want to transfer bookmarks in Chrome, make sure Chrome is up to date on Android.
Now you can open Move to iOS on your Android. On the Apps & Data setup screen on iPhone, choose Move Data from Android.
Transfer Data
Although Apple outlines eight steps, it’s fair to simplify the process to these four:
- Wait for a 6- or 10-digit code on iPhone and enter it on Android
- Ignore any alerts that your Android has a weak internet connection
- Connect to the temporary Wi-Fi network created by iPhone
- Select and start transferring data
The transfer make take a while. Feel free to monitor the progress bar on iPhone, even if Android claims prematurely that it’s done. Also, check step 6 of Apple’s support document to find out what can be transferred.
Once the transfer is complete, finish setting up your iPhone and identify items or apps to be transferred or installed manually.
