Today’s tip is a reminder of how easily you can type “.com” at the end of an email address or website on your iPhone or iPad.
A Keyboard For the Task
When typing a website URL in a web browser, adding the email address of a message recipient, or entering one of these in most forms on websites or in other apps, your device presents a specific keyboard layout designed for these entries.
As you see above, the iPhone variant has dedicated keys for @ and period, so there’s no need to tap 123 to access these symbols.
Long Press .
On iPhone, simply long press the period key to show a menu of top-level domains, including .com, .org, and .net. .com is the default choice so you can just release and see it appear.
On iPad, swipe up on the period to reveal this menu and also select .com. Just don’t swipe beyond the top key on the keyboard.
Select Other Top-Level Domains
Once you’ve long pressed and/or swiped up on the period to get the menu, you can swipe left or right to choose other top-level domains, like .org or .net.
Any time you find yourself typing .com manually, may you remember this more efficient approach that is a simple press or swipe away. How much time can you imagine saving by not typing these four characters manually?
