I’m not sure how butt-dialing works unless a phone is left unlocked when it goes in your pocket. Are you always careful to lock/sleep your phone when you put it away? Not only does this conserve battery, especially in apps like Camera that hold the device awake—it also ensures you don’t inadvertently call someone.
Missed Calls
An incoming call you miss or decline appears in red text. You can easily decline a call by double-clicking the Sleep/Wake (power) button.
If the caller is in your contacts, the phone number’s label is shown under the contact’s name. Otherwise, you’ll see the origin location, if available.
Tap the ⓘ to learn more about the person who called, including which number they called from, which will also appear in red.
Outgoing Calls
After you place a call, an icon appears to the left of the recipient. If you called by phone, the icon looks like a telephone handset with an arrow pointing away. For a FaceTime or other video call, it’s a video camera with an arrow.
Tap the ⓘ to learn more about the call, including its length and, if a FaceTime call, the amount of data used. If the recipient is in your contacts, the destination number/email will be marked RECENT.
Received Calls
When you answer a call, the caller’s name or number appears in black with no additional icons to the left. Again, you can get more info to learn which number/email you called and the call length.
Wondering what I mean by emails used for calling? In FaceTime land, you can place or receive a call using an Apple ID, which is in the form of an email address. Most users opt to allow their phone number for FaceTime as well, but that’s actually secondary to email.
Will this wisdom help eliminate your weird butt-dialing habits or will you still put your iPhone away with the screen on?
